MALAWIAN president Peter Mutharika has described Synagogue Church of All Nations (Scoan) founder Pastor Temitope Balogun Joshua popularly known as TB Joshua as a false prophet whose predictions are made in search of money.
Earlier this year, Pastor Joshua prophesised that President Mutharika and President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe would die before April 1. In 2012, Pastor Joshua predicted the death of a president of an unnamed southern African country and President Mutharika’s brother, Bingu, who was president at the time, died within the predicted timeframe, giving the prophesy strong currency in Malawi.
In January this year, Pastor Joshua reportedly gave a televised prophecy, telling his congregation to pray for the leaders in southern Africa. He added that the end of February to April this year will be peculiar months for Southern Africa.
Responding, President Mutharika, said: “I’m told there is a man in Nigeria called Joshua and he is saying that Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe and Peter Mutharika will die before April 1. Let me tell you, Joshua, you will fail as what you did in 2012 will not happen again this year.”
President Mutharika questioned Pastor Joshua’s credentials as a prophet, pointing to the collapse of a guesthouse in his sprawling Scoan complex in Lagos in September 2014, which left 116 people dead, mostly South Africans. He asked why Pastor TB Joshua did not foresee the accident and prevent it.
“Why did he not foretell this tragedy? This all shows that he is a liar and he just wants to raise money,” President Mutharika added.
Currently in his mid 70s, President Mutharika has pledged to be around in 2019 for the next presidential elections and also in 2024 when he plans to run for his last term. President Mutharika came to power in 2014 after defeating Joyce Banda who succeeded his brother Bingu Mutharika and made several visits to the Lagos headquarters of Pastor Joshua’s church, once describing the evangelist as her spiritual father.
