SENATE president Senator Bukola Saraki appeared in the upper chamber of the National Assembly yesterday wearing in made in Aba clothing as part of his campaign to promote the patronisation of locally made goods.
Last week, Senator Saraki called on Nigerians to patronise home-made goods, saying the country’s economy can only grow through such action. During the recent Made in Aba Trade Fair which took place in Abuja, Senator Saraki was presented with 29 locally made fabrics by Adiele Ekeke, the chief executive of local firm Adic Designs.
To drive home his point, he senate president adorned himself in a made-in-Aba attire yesterday, pointing out that the patronage of made-in-Nigeria goods is a show of patriotism, and helps the country’s small and medium scale enterprises. Senator Saraki also promised to champion a change in the Procurement Act of Nigeria, to give locally manufactured goods first option in the government procurement process.
Also, the management of local car assembly plant Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) paid a visit to the Senator Saraki and after extensive deliberations, he promised to patronise them too. Apparently, in line with the promise, Senator Saraki added IVM vehicles to his official motorcade.
