SUPER Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has finally completed her move to Arsenal Ladies from Liverpool and was unveiled at the Emirates Stadium yesterday where she was handed jersey number 24.
Oshoala, 21, spent the 2015 season with Liverpool Ladies where she became the first player from Africa to feature in the English Women’s Super League. She scored three goals in 12 appearances for the Reds, cementing her reputation as one of the world's brightest young talents, although injury somewhat limited her appearances.
On the international stage, Asisat has represented Nigeria with distinction at youth and senior level. In 2014, she was voted player of the tournament at both the Under-20 World Cup and the African Women’s Championship and was also named the BBC’s Women’s Footballer of the Year in 2015.
Arsenal Ladies manager Pedro Losa said: “Asisat is a fantastic talent and will be a great addition to our squad. She is quick, with excellent feet and has proven she can score goals so it’s very positive she has decided to join us.”
A lifelong Arsenal fan, Asisat said her move to London fulfilled a childroom dream if playing for her favourite club. Following her move to England, Liverpool Ladies manager Matt Beard, describing Asisat as one of the best young players in the world.
