Super Flamingoes qualify for U17 World Cup with 7-0 aggregate win over South Africa

altNIGERIA'S U17 female football team the Super Flamingoes have qualified for the 2016 World Cup taking place in Jordan between September 30 and October 21 after beating South Africa 1-0 away in Tembisa yesterday.

 

With yesterday's lone goal victory, the Flamingoes eliminated the South Africans 7-0 on aggregate having beaten them 6-0 in the first leg in Abuja. Yesterday's victory at the Makhulong Stadium, ensured that the Flamingoes qualified for their fifth successive World Cup, confirming their status as Africa's premier team.

 

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, who scored four times in the first le, netted the only goal of yesterday's  match.  It was her eighth goal in four qualifying matches, as she had also scored three over two legs when the Flamingoes thrashed Namibia 9-0.

 

Nigeria has never failed to qualify for the U17 World Cup since it began in 2008. Yesterday, the team could have scored more but South Africa's goalkeeper, Malogadi Maluleke made several great saves to deny the Flamingoes coached by Bala Nikyu of more goals.
