Ipob leader Nnamdi Kanu writes his supporters from detention praising their steadfastness

altRADIO Biafra director and Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) leader Nnamdi Kanu has written to his supporters from detention exalting them for their steadfastness in campaigning for his release.

Since October last year, Mr Kanu has been held in detention after being arrested upon arrival from London, where he runs a pirate radio station and is facing several charges including treason. Following his arrest, Ipob members have held numerous rallies across Igboland calling for his immediate and unconditional release.

In a letter dated March 24 and addressed to the British high commissioner in Abuja, Mr Kanu described himself as a victim of a travesty of justice and gross human rights violations. So far, the Nigerian government has refused to release him but from his prison cell, Mr Kanu has praised his followers for refusing to give up the fight.

Mr Kanu said: “I wish to commend and congratulate millions of Ipobians the world over, whose tenacity and exemplary steadfastness to the course is and will always remain a great source of joy and inspiration for me. It is noteworthy and very commendable, that despite the spirited antics of our adversaries, the struggle has gathered the desired, awareness, momentum, sympathy and outright support, way beyond our expectations.

“Your total commitment to the struggle and your determination and focus as a well disciplined mass movement has gotten the attention of the world and frightened the enemy stiff. As our journey to the Promised Land progresses beautifully, since we left Egypt, it is important to always remind ourselves that our progeny will forever remain grateful to us for our many sacrifices today."

He added that they are almost there and as the oppressor panics, they unwittingly wobble from one blunder to another. According to Mr Kanu, time is running out and Pharaoh and his army clearly have no choice than to let his people go.
