Ipob says Enugu killings took place due to Igbo APC members and governors selling out

altSEPARATIST group the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) has blamed Igbo leaders for the recent massacre in Enugu State by Fulani herdsmen saying it happened because political leaders across the southeast sold Ndigbo out to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

On Monday this week, Fulani cattle rearers armed to the teeth with AK47 assault rifles attacked the Ukpabi Nimbo community in Enugu State killing about 48 people. Over recent months, the growing menace of Fulani herdsmen clashing with local communities over grazing rights has escalated frighteningly, often with bloody consequences.

Yesterday, Ipob blamed the massacre on Igbo governors and political leaders for trading off Ndigbo for personal and selfish interest. According to Ipob by hanging around the APC led-federal government, the governors were doing so at the detriment of their Igbo brothers and sisters.

Ipob spokesman Emma Powerful, claimed that southeast governors and politicians, as well as members and non-members of APC had so much compromised themselves or kept quiet for one political favour or the other. He said the development had made them to turn blind eyes to the killings in Igbo land by Fulani herdsmen.

Mr Powerful said: “The first attack by Fulani herdsmen in Enugu State resulted in the arrest of over 76 persons who were searching for the whereabouts of their loved ones after the attack. Their arrest by the security agents, particularly the police and detaining them at Police Zone 9 Umuahia and subsequently arraignment was not condemned by the southeast governors and politicians and that emboldened them for the next attack at the Ukpabi Nimbo community in the state.

“Ipob worldwide therefore is constrained to raise accusing fingers at the governors and politicians in the southeast over the killing of our people. Governors and the politicians used the life of their brothers and subjects to play game of politics, trading them off to the APC for crumbs they are expecting from a government that has nothing to offer Nigerians let alone Igbo governors and politicians."

He accused governors and politicians of keeping quiet and and praising the government that is humiliating their people. According to Mr Powerful, Ipob other Biafra actualisation agitating groups expected these governors, National Assembly members and other southeast political appointees and others close to the corridors of power to stoutly react against the injustice but they never did.
