NFF sets its sights on former Tottenham coach Harry Redknapp to manage the Eagles

FORMER Tottenham Hotspurs and Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has become the latest big name associated with coaching the Super Eagles amid reports that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has him in its sights.

 

Nigeria is currently without a head coach after Sunday Oliseh resigned from his position last month ahead of the African Nations Cup qualifier against Egypt. U23 coach Samson Siasia was drafted in to handle the two-legged tied against the Egyptians and haven failed to qualify for the tournament, he has returned to his job as Olympic coach.

 

NFF chairman Amaju Pinnick has not hidden his desire to get a foreign coach for the team since Nigeria’s inability to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. He has made it clear he is interested in getting a big name onboard to lead Nigeria's quest to qualify for the 2018 World Cup taking place in Russia.

 

Several coaches have been touted to replace Siasia, including Claude Le Roy, Clemence Westerhoff, Paul Le Guen and Mark Wotte. According to UK tabloid, The Sun, Redknapp, 69, currently managing the Jordanian national team is wanted by the NFF.

 

Redknapp is two games into his interim coaching capacity in Jordan and in his two games so far, he led the side to beat Bangladesh 8-0 before losing 1-5 to Australia. Nigeria has had three coaching changes in the past one year with Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh, and Samson Siasia all seeing time with the Eagles.
