In one of the most gruesome cases of family killings ever recorded in the state, Agayo was said to have used charms on his mother alleging that she was responsible for his being impotent over the last few years. Earlier this week, he allegedly shot his mother with a locally-made gun after accusing her of witchcraft.
Parading the suspect, yesterday, the Benue State police commissioner Paul Yakadi, said Agayo was nabbed on Monday evening in Katsina-Ala. Benue State Police Command spokesman Moses Yamu, said the matter was still being investigated after which Agayo would face trial.
Agayo said: “I went to consult the oracle over my impotence and I was told that my mother used my manhood for witchcraft and rendered me impotent. She did not want me to be a man.
“So, my friend advised me to kill her so as to use her blood to acquire spiritual powers that will help me become rich and also do many other things. That was why I shot her.”
It is expected that he will soon be charged with murder following the police investigation. So far, police have not revealed whether anyone else has been arrested in connection with the crime or whether Agayo's friend or the oracle man will be charged too.
