AUTOMOBILE assembly company Innoson Nigeria's managing director Innocent Chukwuma faces arrest for forgery after a Lagos high court judge authorised the attorney general of federation to commence his prosecution.
Along with four others, Mr Chukwuma was facing a four count charge of forgery and criminal activity. Judge Saliu Saidu granted an application filed by Federal Ministry of Justice, the attorney general and the office of the Inspector General of Police after listening to the submission of the counsel of the two parties.
The other accused persons to be arraigned alongside the Mr Chukwuma are Charles Chukwu, Maximian Chukwura, Mitsui Osk Lines, and Annajekwu Sunny. In the four-count amended criminal charge number FHC /L/565/C/2015 filed before the court by director of public prosecutions, between January 2010 and April 2011 the four men conspired at Apapa Wharf to the falsification of shipping documents which they deposited with Mitsui Osk Lines Lagos.
These documents were then used as collateral for the purpose of clearance of the raw material polyinlchloride (PVC) for the production of roof ceiling and other imported items. It was further alleged that all the accused persons did without lawful authority and with intent to defraud, alter the shipping clearance documents to the shipping Line Mitsui Osk Lines, which was used as collateral for the purpose of obtaining a loan of N2.4bn from Guaranty Trust Bank.
They were also alleged to have falsely and fraudulently represented as genuine, the uttered shipping documents and presented same to Guaranty Trust Bank to obtain a loan of N2.4bn. Justice Saidu has adjourned the case until May 31 when all the accused persons will be arraigned.
