SUPER Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho is demanding a new bumper contract from Manchester City worth £200,000 a week over the next five years as he and his agent enter into negotiations with the club over a new deal.
Iheanacho, 19, signed for Manchester City in January 2014 and was given the number 72 jersey and has since gradually worked his way into the club's first team. This season, he has blossomed, scoring 13 goals, seven in the Premiership, despite not being a regular starter and having shown he is a class act, the club is now prepared to offer him a new contract.
In October, Manchester City offered Iheanacho 50,000 pounds-a-week but his agent is pressing for a better deal. At the moment, Iheanacho is earning somewhere between £10,000 and £18,000 pounds a week after coming through the City youth ranks and offered his first ever professional contract.
One source close to the club said: “He has deserved his keep at City as he is now one of the most effective forwards in the whole of Europe when you put his game time against the number of his goals.”
Highly talented, Iheanacho was voted the best player at the U17 World Cup in December 2013, taking home the golden ball, while also winning the silver boot for being the second highest goal scorer in the tournament. Following his success, several European clubs were after him before he finally settled for Manchester City.
Iheanacho is expected to sign his new contract by July when the current season ends. He has already endeared himself to the Manchester City fans with his pace, passing, vision and goals and last weekend, increased his profile further when he found the back of the net twice against Southampton.
