MEN of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have arrested five of the suspects Fulani herdsmen involved in the brutal raid on Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State on April 25.
In one of the most brutal communal clashes Nigeria has ever witnessed, the armed herdsmen attacked Nimbo with AK47 assault rifles and unleashed mayhem, killing about 48 persons. It led to an outrage both nationally and internationally, leading to calls for the government to ban Fulani herdsmen from roaming round the country with their cattle.
President Muhammadu Buhari has also been under pressure to disarm the Fulani herdsmen and it appears that the police have responded b y carrying out arrests. Operatives of the inspector general of police's Intelligence Response Team (IRT) acting on credible technical intelligence, arrested Mohammed Zurai, Ciroma Musa, Sale Adamu, Suleiman Laute and Haruna Laute.
They also recovered one Gionee L88 mobile phone with memory card containing the video recording of the massacre in the community. Police spokesman Olabisi Kolawole, stated that the team also busted a three-man syndicate of deadly bank robbers and kidnappers and recovered arms, ammunition, dynamite and other tools from them.
Inspector-general of police Solomon Arase, expressed satisfaction the high sense of patriotism and professionalism with which the members of the IRT have carried out their duties so far. He stated that the IRT relied on vital information provided by the public and attributed the recent break-through to the growing trust and cooperation between the force and the public.
