Buhari may seek medical treatment abroad as he gets afflicted with Meniere Disease

altPRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari is reported to be seriously ill with Meniere Disease that has hampered his hearing in his left ear resulting in presidency staff reducing his outings over the last week and may result in him seeking medical treatment abroad.

According to sources within the presidential villa, the infection has resulted in the president suffering from a hearing impairment. He is also said to routinely complain of severe pains and unusual sounds from that ear, which has resulted in him cancelling three official trips lately, instead sending vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

Over the weekend, Professor Osinbajo represented the president at the 48th Ordinary Summit of Head of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas) holding this weekend in Dakar, Senegal. Apparently, President Buhari contracted the ear infection about two weeks ago.

President Buhari, who clocked 73 last December, was said to have confirmed his illness to some dignitaries who visited him in the past days, explaining that that was why he was unable to visit Lagos and Rivers states as scheduled. He was also said to have told some of his guests that he was struggling to give his failing health a major attention.

At the moment, the president is being treated by his personal physician and other experts from the State House clinic but it is believed he might seek treatment abroad if his condition does not improve over the next few days. Despite his illness, however, President Buhari managed to attend Friday's Jumaat service and host some important visitors, including former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan as well as some clergymen.
