Goodluck says it is obvious the Buhari regime is investigating him over corruption charges

altFORMER president Dr Goodluck Jonathan has revealed that he along with members of his cabinet are being investigated over corruption allegations by the government of incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari.

Since President Buhari took office in May last year, he has made investigating corruption his main priority and many members of Dr Jonathan's government have been arrested over this. In particular, the Dasukigate scandal in which £2.1bn earmarked for the purchase of military hardware to fight Boko Haram found its way into private pockets and Dr Jonathan has been mentioned by several of those charged.

Speaking yesterday at Bloomberg in London, Dr Jonathan also asserted that the country’s treasury was not empty when he left government. Although declining to disclose what he was being investigated for, Dr Jonathan added that it obvious that the present admninsitation was probing him.

Dr Jonathan added: “Of course, obviously, I’ve been investigated. I wouldn’t want to make certain comments because, when a government is working, it’s not proper for immediate past presidents to make certain statements.

"I will allow the government to do the work it’s supposed to do but after all these investigations, the whole stories will be properly chronicled. I’ve just left office and I should allow the president and his team to do what they believe is good for the country.”

Similarly, he also stated that his government did very well in curbing corruption. In addition, Dr Jonathan stated that he tried his best to diversify the Nigerian economy, particularly in the area of agriculture.
