Governor Fayose's senior special assistant quits saying he can no longer pretend all is well

altEKITI State governor Ayo Fayose in embroiled in another crisis after his special assistant on parliamentary affairs Samuel Ajibola resigned his appointment saying that the economic situation in the state which he can no longer pretend over.

 

If late, Governor Fayose has been embattled as workers across the state have threatened to down tools over unpaid salary arrears and anti-graft authorities have said they will bar him from travelling abroad over corruption claims. A fierce critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Fayose has attributed his problems to political victimisation.

 

Governor Fayose has dared the Department of State Security to prevent him from travelling abroad whenever he wants to. He has also told Ekiti State workers and trade unions that he cannot sell himself to clear their salary arrears as Ekiti simply does not have the cash to make the payments.

 

Adding to the governor's woes, Mr Ajibola said he quit the Ayo Fayose administration on basic developmental issues and the economic situation in the state which he can no longer pretend over. He was the only Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly before Governor Fayose came to power on October 16, 2014.

 

In his letter dated May 28, 2016, Mr Ajibola said: “I humbly write this to formally notify you that I am resigning from my position as your special assistant on parliamentary affairs. Sir, within my personal conviction, I am satisfied that I have in honesty and utmost loyalty served the PDP, the people of Ekiti and the government in general.

 

“Therefore, I am premising my resignation on some basic developmental issues and the economic situation in the state which I cannot continue to pretend over. My resignation takes off immediately.”

 

According to the former lawmaker, he got into trouble with Governor Fayose for going to the house of former governor Segun Oni to celebrate Christmas last December. He also disclosed that his meeting with a party elder, Chief Clement Awoyelu, with the intent to broker peace with a faction led by the former senator did not go down well with the governor who allegedly accused him of holding meeting with his political opponents.
