Army commanders claim to have killed 16 Boko Haram repelling latest terrorist attack

altNIGERIAN Army commanders have claimed to have killed 16 Boko Haram terrorists in a fresh confrontation in Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State that also resulted in two soldiers being injured.

Over recent months, the Nigerian Army has successfully dislodged Boko Haram from most of its strongholds in Borno State but the terrorists still control several pockets of areas. According to the army high command, the remnants of Boko Haram attacked troops at Rann in Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State and after a heavy exchange of gunfire, 16 of the terrorists were killed.

Army spokesman Col Sani Usman, said: “The terrorists came with motorcycles with improvised explosive devices, anti-aircraft guns and other weapons at about 5.00pm and the exchange of fire lasted for some hours before they were overwhelmed by the troops firepower. Unfortunately, one of the suicide bombers detonated himself at a gun truck, killing the driver and the gunner.

“Two soldiers were wounded in action while three others sustained minor injuries but the troops killed seven of the attackers instantly while quite a number escaped with gunshot wounds. During clearance operations this morning, the troops discovered nine more Boko Haram terrorists' dead bodies in the surrounding areas, so therefore the total number of terrorists killed was 16."

He added that the troops also recovered a general purpose machine gun, a rocket propelled grenade, ammunitions and captured two of the terrorists alive. According to Col Usman, the bodies of the two   fallen heroes have been evacuated to Maiduguri, while reinforcements were sent from Gomboru Ngala to beef up the unit.
