Buhari's poll rating drops to its lowest ever level of 39% as economic problems bite hard

altPRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari's poll rating dropped to 39% during the course of June from 48% in May representing his lowest level of acceptance by the Nigerian public since he assumed office last year.

In May 2015, President Buhari assumed office and by October, he had a massive poll rating of 80% as his government sought to clamp down on corruption. However, according to the latest survey conducted by NOI Polls, Nigerians are now losing faith in the government due to a host of problems it has failed to resolve.

This latest rating represents the lowest approval since polls started 13 months ago. According to the survey, the president’s rating stood at 57% in February but this is dropping monthly due to the fact that the economy is presently facing a lot of crises.

One of the polling agency's investigators said: “This latest score represents a 9-point decline when compared to the rating in May which stood at 48%. The northeast, zone's rating was 59%, while on the other hand the southeast and south-south zones had the least approval rating of 8% and 24% respectively.”

The survey also revealed a decline in the approval of the president across Nigeria's five geopolitical zones, when compared with May. Apparently, the poll showed that Nigerians were dissatisfied in the areas of conflict resolution, agriculture and food security with scores of 28% and 21% respectively.
