CHIEF of army staff Lt General Tukur Buratai has visited the wounded soldiers and the three United Nations and international humanitarian organisations that were injured during an ambush by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State on Thursday.
Earlier this week, government troops returning from Bama on humanitarian escort duty, were ambushed enroute Maiduguri by suspected remnants of Boko Haram terrorists hiding in Meleri village, a few kilometres from Kawuri. However, the gallant troops successfully fought off the ambush.
Unfortunately, two soldiers and three civilians were wounded in the ambush, among who were staff of United Nations agencies and other international humanitarian organisations. Those wounded in the attack have been evacuated to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Borno State and are said to be in a stable condition.
Yesterday, General Buratai visited the victims at the Accident and Emergency Ward of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. He was accompanied by the theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, some principal staff officers from army headquarters and the general officer commanding the Seventh Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army.
During the visit, General Buratai interacted with the wounded soldiers and civilians and encouraged them and wished them speedy recovery. Since the attack, United Nations aid agency Unicef, has suspended all convoy deliveries to northeast Nigeria.
