Former Governor Akpabio's adviser says Niger Delta Avengers is PDP's military wing

altFORMER Akwa Ibom State governor Godswill Akpabio's special assistant on diaspora affairs Ata Ikiddeh has alleged that the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) is the military arm of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Over recent months, the NDA has stepped up its attacks on oil installations across the country, blowing up well and pipelines. Attempts by the government to negotiate with the militants have failed and despite efforts to broker a temporary truce, the NDA continues to mount it attacks.

Yesterday, Mr Ikiddeh, said that the NDA was founded by the PDP to destabilise the government of President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He described the NDA as the military wing of the PDP.

Mr Ikiddeh said: “I am afraid to admit that but that’s what this government is turning the Avengers into - the resistance wing of the PDP. A very dangerous scenario is unfolding and I wouldn’t be surprised if a copycat group in the North becomes the clandestine military wing of APC, not with their permission of course but this is how these things begin to take shape, they get out of our control, Boko Haram is our perfect example.

“If I tell you, all PDP members in detention will be released by the end of July, you’ll wonder where I got that from. I am not sure of Dasuki and Kanu but the rumour of a coup has made their releases a security risk to the state, so I wouldn’t be surprised if some kind of house arrest is fangled out for this two."

He added that Nigeria is still playing politics with the Niger Delta crisis. According to Mr Ikideh, the country needs a national conference, to be organised by the international community on the Niger Delta.
