KANO chief Alhaji Jamilu is facing a legal suit after it emerged that his shot his house maid for not keeping his daughter quiet allowing the infant to wake him up while he was taking an afternoon nap.
According to one eyewitness, Alhaji Jamilu, who holds the traditional title of Barden Kano, shot and wounded the housemaid in his house in Kaduna. Alhaji Jamilu is said to be from the royal family in Kano but lives in Barnawa Area of Kaduna.
One Kaduna lawyer and activist, said: "The man was taking an afternoon nap when his little daughter was crying. The cry woke him up and he asked after his wife and the wife was not in the house.
He blamed the Nanny for leaving the daughter, so, he brought out two guns, aimed at the Nanny and fired her. She managed to step out from the house but she fell down as a result of amount of blood she was bleeding."
After the incident, Alhaji Jamilu apparently came down to plead with her and decided to take the maid to the hospital. He then, quickly called one of the local community leaders and told him what happened, who then called the Kaduna State police commissioner and briefed him.
Apparently, Alhaji Jamilu is going round telling people that he was servicing his gun when it fired and what happened was an accidental. It is not yet clear if he will be charged by the police but Alhaji Jamilu faces the prospect of civil action from human rights activists.
