Lagos church deacon and two of his staff gun down by hired assassins over land dispute

altPOLICE in Lagos State have commenced the search for a band of hoodlums who murdered three people in cold blood including a church deacon over a plot of land in the Ikorodu area of the state.

Yesterday, the three men were mowed down by what appeared to be a group of hired assassins following a land brawl which had lingered for quite some time. Apparently, the piece of land is located at Isiwo Road in the Igbodu area of Ikorodu.

Suddenly, the dispute escalated yesterday evening when the deacon, identified only as Hassan, his driver and his personal assistant, met their untimely death at about 6pm. Apparently, after several warnings and threats, he was killed while he had gone to inspect the land alongside his driver and assistant.

One of the deacon's church members said:  “It’s a very painful exit in the family of my friend, as assassins eliminated one of his brothers, Deacon Hassan, his personal assistant and his driver yesterday at Isiwo Road, Igbodu, based on land dispute. May God in his mercy protect and guide us from evil doers."

It was learnt that the deceased’s family had issues with some people over the piece of land, which is not uncommon in Nigeria. So far, it does not appear that any arrest has been made by the police.
