EVANGELICAL church the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) has issued a new directive banning its female members from appearing skimpily in its places of worship in response to what it sees as a growth of indecent dressing.
Nigerian evangelical churches are one of the biggest growth industries in the country, attracting millions of worshippers who flock to places of worship in search of solutions to their problems. This growth, however, has led to a loss of control over matters like dressing as many ladies appear in skimpy clothes.
Responding to what it sees as the lowering of its values, the MFM issued a directive yesterday banning indecent dressing in all its branches worldwide. It added that its major standard was holiness and that informed its decision to preoccupy itself with the preaching of the gospel.
MFM chairman, Pastor Oladele Bank-Olemoh, said: “Our church is principally a deliverance ministry and that means we are fighting against demonic forces.” He added that the MFM general overseer, Dr Daniel Olukoya, had warned that indecent dressing would no longer be tolerated in the church.
Pastor Bank-Olemoh said: “The general overseer had warned that if those who dress indecently do not change, they will not be allowed into the church. Today, if anybody is not properly dressed, the person will be not be allowed into the church as we will politely tell the person that he or she cannot enter.”
He added that it was regrettable that certain people have used the church as an avenue through which to perpetrate evil. Pastor Bank-Olemoh therefore urged the people to strengthen their relationship with God, rather than hide under religion.
