Outgoing US ambassador praises Buhari for putting Nigeria on the road to recovery

altOUTGOING US ambassador to Nigeria James Enwistle has praised President Muhammadu Buhari for the way in which he has run the country since assuming office in may last year saying that the nation is now on the path to economic recovery.

Speaking in Abuja yesterday, Mr Enwistle compared the present situation confronting President Buhari to what US President Barrack Obama went through when he came to power. He, therefore, urged Nigerians to exercise patience with his administration.

According to Mr Enwistle, the slide in the economy was as a result of some problems inherited by the president such as poor infrastructure in the petroleum sector and others. He expressed confidence that the country would  recover from the economic downturn.

Mr Enwistle said: “I give the president a very good mark and let’s see how he marches forward in the next few months. I think we have to remember what he inherited and in my own opinion, we have to be neutral as I think Mr President and his team have done a good job.

“I think he has put in place some things. Although I am not an economist, what he has done with the exchange rate and fuel subsidy are great.”
