IMO State deputy governor Prince Eze Madumere has called on Ndigbo to rally round Governor Rochas Okorocha as he is the one person who has succeeded in uniting all Igbos with a view to allowing them claim their rightful place in Nigeria.
A close ally of President Muhammadu Buhari and the chairman of the All Progressives Congress's (APC) Governor Forum, Governor Okorocha is seen by many as the leading Igbo within the ruling party. However, within Igboland, many have described him as a sell-out who has mortgaged Igbo interest to the federal government.
Prince Madumere that that Governor Okorocha has done well uniting Igbos with a view to developing the southeast geo-political zone. He added that he was elated by Governor Okorocha’s efforts, particularly the reconciliation of the factions in Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo.
In addition, Prince Madumere, who also described Governor Okorocha as a rare visionary leader of note, said he was known for his love and sacrifices for peace and unity of Ndigbo and beyond, having achieved same feat in the past under the Nigeria Peace Forum and other uncountable platforms and arrangements. He commended the parties involved in the peace accord, saying that sacrifices made by them were not only appreciated by the Ndigbo but will be remembered kindly by the generations of Ndigbo yet unborn.
Furthermore, he added that a united Igbo race presented the best opportunity to re-launch itself back to its progressive place in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and beyond. He added that this was especially so with the present cooperation that now exists among Ohaneze socio-cultural forum, the politicians led by the governors and the business community.
Prince Madumere regretted a situation where Ndigbo controlled a total investment of over 30% in other zones but had nothing on ground on the home front. He called for a more cohesive and united Ndigbo with a new thinking and approach towards achieving a strong, virile, sustainable and self-sufficient economy.
