Vice president Osinbajo says he supports the idea of state police forces to combat crime

altVICE president Professor Yemi Osinbajo has affirmed his support for the idea of having state police forces as a means of combating the incessant problems of insecurity and criminal activity across the country.

 

Nigeria is considered one of the most insecure countries on earth with all sorts of violent crimes prevalent including armed robbery, kidnapping, insurgency and militancy. Reaffirming the government's commitment to addressing the numerous insecurity problems plaguing the nation, Professor Osinbajo said the Muhammadu Buhari administration has implemented some of the recommendations of the 2014 Constitutional Conference.

 

He said the administration has implemented some of the decisions listed in the 2014 Confab report because they were sound decisions.  He listed two of such decisions to include the merging of Budget Office with National Planning as one ministry and also the adoption in the 2016 budget of a 60% to 40% recurrent and capital expenditures.

 

In addition, Professor Osinbajo said he desires a deeper debate on the issue of restructuring which he pointed out should not be restricted at the level of resource allocation. In addition, Professor Osinbajo explained that the idea of having state police across the country as articulated in the All Progressives Congress Roadmap to a New Nigeria.
