Buhari condemns murder of eight people in Zamfara over blasphemy against Prophet

altPRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the recent murder of eight people at the Abdu Gusau Polytechnic in Talata Mafara in Zamfara State after a student was alleged to have committed blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

On Monday, on a gruesome mass lynching, the incident occurred when a male student was alleged to have committed blasphemy during an exchange of words with his friend. His disagreement with the Muslim adherent caused tension in the school, which attracted large mobs of die-hard fanatics.

Responding to the attack, President Buhari said he received news of the mob killings in Zamfara with great dismay. He took to Twitter to promise that the perpetuators of the heinous crime would be brought to book.

President Buhari said: “I assure that the law will take its course. My prayers are with the families of the victims.

"This attack is barbaric and unacceptable. Under my watch we will work to ensure that there is no place for violence in the name of religion, ethnicity, or in any guise whatsoever.”

In the past, the president had been accused of not speaking out when fundamentalists killed in the name of religion. President Buhari has been particularly criticised for not condemning the frequent attacks by Fulani herdsmen across the country.
