Eight burnt to death at Zamfara poly after student blasphemes Prophet Mohammed

altABOUT eight people have been burnt to death at the Abdu Gusau Polytechnic in Talata Mafara in Zamfara State after a student was alleged to have committed blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

 

In a gruesome mass lynching, the incident occurred yesterday when a male student was alleged to have committed blasphemy during an exchange of words with his friend. His disagreement with the Muslim adherent caused tension in the school, which attracted large mobs of die-hard fanatics.

 

After the altercation, the student was said to have fled to a house to hide but the mob tracked him down and gained access. Upon finding him they set the house ablaze along with seven other persons in the building.

 

Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident and immediately imposed an indefinite curfew on the town in a bid to restore peace. Police spokesman Shehu Muhammad, sternly warned any person or group of persons found violating the curfew, adding that such people would be arrested and prosecuted.

 

In addition, the police also called on religious leaders in the state to counsel their adherents to embrace peace and eschew violence of any kind for peaceful coexistence to thrive. Already, the management of the polytechnic have immediately closed down the institution to forestall any further violence.
