Emir of Ilorin adds his voice to those claiming Fulani herdsmen are being blamed unfairly

altEMIR of Ilorin and chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Council of Chiefs Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari has become the latest northern monarch to defend Fulani cattle herdsmen denying they are responsible for all the atrocities attributed to them.

Over recent years, Fulani cattle herdsmen have been involved in numerous bloody clashes with local farming communities across Nigeria resulting in heavy loss of life. Well armed with AK 47 assault rifles, these herdsmen have been known to raise entire villages to the ground as disputes over grazing rights become bloody.

Lately, these attacks have grown in number and are now commonplace over every part of Nigeria but according to Alhaji Gambari, the herdsmen are not to blame for many of the atrocities attributed to them. He described Fulani herdsmen as peaceful, lovable and honest in their dealings with other ethnic groups.

Alhaji Gambari urged individuals to always assess issues and desist from embarking on controversial matters capable of causing disharmony in the country. Over recent months, several northern governors and traditional rulers have made the same claim, pointing out that Fulani herdsmen are being blamed for crimes unfairly.
