Former Canuk chair Bimbo Afolayan appointed chairman of Beffta global awards

altFORMER Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (Canuk) chairman Chief Bimbo Afolayan has been appointed as the international chair of the Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television and Arts (Beffta)  awards.

 

Widely regarded as the premier black awards ceremony in the UK, Beffta honours ethnic minority artisans, entertainers, media outlets, intellectuals and community. Its annual event in London, attracts thousands of Africans and people of Caribbean descent and has been graced by icons including the likes of Trevor McDonald over the years.

 

It is by and large Europe’s biggest award ceremony that celebrates personalities in the African, Caribbean and Asian communities in entertainment, sports, leadership and philanthropy. Chief Afolayan, who is also executive director of the Nigerian Diaspora Direct Investment Summit (NDDIS) now becomes the first ever chairman of the global Beffta awards.

 

Beffta founder Dr Pauline Long said: “We could not have picked a better chairman who is for the people, a true leader who is committed to seeing the community excel. We are grateful and appreciate him and look forward to working with him extensively to take Beffta to greater heights.”

 

Chief Afolayan added: "This role is important to me as it gives me the opportunity to join the hardworking Beffta team to honour, support and promote showbiz, creative and sporting personalities all over the world. With this new big significant appointment I will work closely with Dr Pauline Long and her team to spread Beffta in West Africa, Southern Africa, East Africa, The Caribbean Islands, Asia, USA, Canada and other parts of the world.

 

This year's award ceremony which will be the eighth, takes place in London during the Black History Month. This will be over October 27 and 28, with stars expected to attend from all over the world.
