SUPER Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho looks like he will miss Nigeria's African Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania due to take place on September 3 after he picked up an injury while playing for his club yesterday.
Iheanacho, 19, is one of the hottest young prospects in Nigerian football at the moment and is gradually working his way into the Manchester City first team. Yesterday, he picked up an injury during Manchester City’s Uefa Champions League second leg playoff game against Steaua Bucharest, which took place at the Etihad Stadium.
In the 75th minute the striker pulled up with what looked like a serious hamstring injury after chasing a through ball. Before he was stretched off, Iheanacho contributed to City’s lone goal of the night after connecting with a Yaya Toure pass in the 56th minute.
He played the ball outside of the box to an onrushing Jesus Navas, whose cross found Fabian Delph, who nodded down past Steaua goalkeeper Valentin Cojocaru. Manchester City will now nervously await a medical report on the injury, to know how long the striker will be out for.
