KOGI State governor Yahaya Bello has been pelted with stones and other missiles the Lokoja Central Mosque where he was attending a special session to mark the 25th anniversary of the creation of the state.
Only elected last year, Governor Bello bore the fury of an angry crowd who were unhappy with the current state of the economy and the fact that the government owed salary arrears. Eyewitnesses said that the governor, who had arrived at the mosque behind schedule, was greeted with jeers and boos by some irate youths, at its entrance.
Following the incident, the prayer session was hurriedly suspended on the advice of security personnel around. This was after the governor was booed and missiles were thrown in his direction as he alighted from his car.
Abdumalik Abdukarim, Governor Bello's spokesman denied the incident, however, saying that it was not true. He added: “I was at the mosque with the governor and I did not witness any incident like that.”
