Lagos driver clones boss's ATM card clones it and withdraws N2.8m from his account

altMEN of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 25-year old driver Mayowa Adenuga who carried out the unprecedented crime of stealing his boss's automated teller machine (ATM) and cloning it before withdrawing N2.8m (£6,700) from the victim's account.

In what appeared to be a new form of crime, Mr Adenuga and two other suspected fraudsters are currently being investigated by the police for cloning and withdrawing funds from the account. Originally from Ogun State, Mr Adenuga and  his accomplice Jeremiah Ibitoye, 26, from Osun State, specialise in cyber fraud.

Apparently, they are part of a three-man group who use an unknown software to deactivate the owners’ ATM pin number. Their software allows them to stop the victim from receiving withdrawal alerts on their registered  mobile number.

Upon his arrest, Mr Adenuga confessed: “I stole my boss's ATM card when he misplaced it. I returned it to him after my friends and I cloned the card with Revolar.

“Since we cannot withdraw more than N100, 000 through the ATM per day, we use the POS to shop online.”
