Lagos State Police Command arrests two teenagers for robbing school of seven laptops

MEN of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two teenagers for burgling a public secondary school in the Somolu area of the state and carting away several laptop computers and printers.

 

With the growth of information technology in Nigeria, laptops are considered highly value items at the moment and schools have stepped up the acquisition of such items. Over the weekend, Yinka Adesola, 19 and Ahmed Olaleye, 17, were arrested by the police in Lagos State for allegedly burgling a public secondary school in the Somolu area of the state.

 

Apparently the duo committed the crime in company with four other suspects, robbing Angus Memorial Senior High School, Somolu, Lagos. According to the police, other members of the gang include Lukman Sokoya, Ismaila Adebowale, Wasiu Adejare and Ramon Mukaila.

 

 It is believed that the teenagers stole seven computer sets, a scanner, laptops and a printer belonging to the school. Since they were arrested, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Lagos State Police Command have recovered some of the stolen items.

 

One police source said: “The RRS intelligence team got a tip-off that one of the suspects was hiding in a place on Awoseni Street. After he was arrested, he told us that he was the buyer of one of the stolen laptops and that was how we arrested him and five others.”

 

In his statement to the police, Adesola denied burgling the school, adding that the items were kept in his apartment by Olaleye. He added: “I knew I had wayward friends who could put me into trouble.

 

"I accommodated  Olaleye  when the people he was staying with relocated from Somolu and I offered to assist him because he was my junior in secondary school. Immediately he moved into my apartment, things started going wrong as neighbours started losing their phones and money and later, we discovered that he was the one behind the thefts.

 

He added that his parents asked him to eject Olaleye which he did but before this, he had brought seven laptops, a scanner, a desktop computer and a printer to his room. According to Adesola, although he saw the name of the school on the items, he thought since Olaleye was always visiting the school, they gave them to him and did not know they were stolen.
