TRADITIONAL rulers in Zamfara State have saved Governor Abdulaziz Yari from impeachment by successfully pleading with members of the state house of assembly to ditch plans to remove him.
Last week, the Zamfara State House of Assembly had finalised plans to remove Governor Yari and with impeachment pending, the governor sought help from the monarchs. Over the weekend, Governor Yari met with the traditional rulers in Gusau and they agreed to intercede in his behalf.
Governor Yari said: “We met and resolved our misunderstandings. The cordial relationship between the integral arms has returned.”
At the meeting which took place at State House, Gusua, those who attended included all the emirs in the state. It was presided over by the state chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Alhaji Lawal Kaura.
Hon Sanusi Garba Rikiji, the speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, said all the terms and conditions for the reconciliation were considered by Governor Yari and the party leadership. He also assured of support and cooperation from the lawmakers of the state, adding that they were satisfied with the level of mediation brokered by the respected politicians and traditional rulers.
“We have virtually reconciled based on the terms and conditions we have signed. It is obvious that our primary duty as lawmakers is to aspire for the development of the state as contained in the country’s constitution,” Hon Rikiji added.
