Asaba residents complain about the recent massive influx of prostitutes into the city

altLOCAL residents in the Delta State capital Asaba have expressed concern about the growing number of prostitutes who have descended on the city over recent weeks turning the metropolis into one huge red light district.

Investigations have revealed that teenage girls between 12 and 13 years believed to be secondary dropouts, have descended on the city lately. During nightfall, they are seen in  strategic places clad in skimpy dresses that barely cover their nudity  to woo sexually hungry men.

One of the residents, Comrade Emeka Okonta expressed concern about the menace,  especially with teenagers being very active  in the business. Some other residents advised women/ladies involved in the act to have a change of  heart, considering the health, religious implications of prostitution and called on security agents to take appropriate steps to curb the trend.

Further investigation revealed that during nightfall, these sex  workers lurk around Texas Plaza, near Asaba township stadium along Nnebisi Road, Summit Junction and Cable Point looking for patrons. In most cases they embarrass visitors coming into Asaba for the first time as they descend on them demanding sex without the use of condoms.

Delta State police commissioner Zanna Ibrahim, said the police will soon clear them off the streets of  Asaba, adding that their recent influx constitutes ways for hoodlums to operate. It is feared that the recent collapse of the Nigerian economy may have led to the development as schooling is now beyond the reach of many Nigerians.
