SUPER Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has described his derby winner against Manchester United yesterday at Old Trafford as a dream come true pointing out that scoring in that clash of the city was always one of his childhood dreams.
Yesterday, Kelechi, 19, scored the second goal in the Manchester derby in the 36th minute in what was his first start of the season. He also provided an assist for the opener when he fed team mate Kevin De Bruyne, through in the 15th minute.
In the 42nd minute, Zlatan Ibrahimovic brought United back into the game on the stroke of half time after an error by the City goalkeeper Bravo. However, rampant and dominate City held n to their lead until the end of the game, taking them to the top of the Premiership table with 12 points.
Iheanacho was only handed a start due to the suspension of Sergio Aguero but he took his opportunity and was delighted to help his side to victory against their local rivals. He may have provided a headache for manager Pep Guardiola now when Aguero comes back.
Kelechi said: “It is a dream come true to play in the Manchester derby and to get a winning goal. I’m very happy, for my team, for everyone as they really worked hard to get the victory today.
“It was about being in the right place at the right time. I didn’t expect the shot, I didn’t expect it to hit the post and come back but I’m happy to be in the right place and to score.”
Man-of-the-match De Bruyne, acknowledged that it was a tough test for City, despite their flying start. He added that it was a very hard game, very intensive, with both teams showing their skill set.
