Massob lashes out at Buhari for telling them to forget the idea of Biafran independence

altIGBO secessionist group the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (Massob) has lashed out at President Muhammadu Buhari for recently telling all those calling for the break-up of Nigeria to perish the thought.

Speaking to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Daura on Tuesday, President Buhari told separatists to perish the thought, adding that the indivisibility of the country under his watch is sacrosanct. He told the corpers that in spite of the failure of leadership that engendered feelings of alienation, particularly in the south-eastern part of the country, Nigeria was still big enough for all its people to live happily together.

In response, the Massob leadership criticised President Buhari for mentioning the experience of the 30-month old Nigerian Civil War. Speaking during a rally to mark Massob's17th anniversary in Awka, Anambra State yesterday, its leader Comrade Uchenna Madu, said that there was no point singling out Ndigbo, out of the corps members that paid President Buhari the Sallah visit.

He added: “Telling the Igbo youth corps members to inform their fellow Igbo youths in Massob to stop Biafran agitation, shows that he directly recognises the corps members as Biafrans. Buhari still erroneously thinks that with his kinsmen in vital positions in the military, he will easily crush Biafra.

"Massob views Buhari’s constant negative comments on Biafra as a way of reawakening consciousness among Biafrans, even as he is jittery and unsteady about our doggedness towards actualizing our lofty dream. We want President Buhari to continue to make similar statements that aptly express his frustration and no man can crush Biafra because God, history and humanity are on our side.”

He equally reminded the president that the arrest and detention of Nnamdi Kanu, Lotachukwu Okoli and a host of others, as well as the killing, persecution, prosecution, suppression and oppression of Biafrans, cannot quench their agitation. Other Biafran campaigners have also criticised President Buhari's comments, saying they would achieve their dream come what may.
