DETECTIVES from the Ogun State Police Command have arrested Idowu Olupinla the founder of the Cherubim and Seraphim church in the Ijoko area of Ota and are set to charge her with running a prostitution ring.
Ms Olupinla, 54, who has been accused of using teenagers to run her racket, faces human trafficking and child abuse charges. She founded the white garment church Adura Migba Cherubim and Seraphim in Ijoko, which she has been accused as using as a front for illegal activities.
However, Ms Olupinla has denied the allegations. She was however confronted by three of her victims, who said she used one of the rooms in her apartment as a brothel, where different men, including male members of the church slept with them.
Ahmed Iliyasu, the Ogun State police commissioner, said one Haruna Saidat aged 16 years and three others lodged complaints against the suspect for using them for prostitution and sending other young girls to neighbouring countries for the same purpose. He paraded Ms Olupinla along with 22 other suspects at the command’s headquarters in Eleweran within the Abeokuta metropolis.
They were all alleged to have committed a range of offences including armed robbery, kidnapping, illegal possession of arms, murder and cultism. Mr Iliyasu, said the suspects were arrested at various locations in the state and no fewer than 21 assorted guns, which included three AK 47 rifles, were recovered.
Also paraded was a member of a gang of robbers/kidnappers terrorising residents of Oyo, Lagos and Ogun states identified as Richard Abraham. Mr Iliyasu said the operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Squad received information on the hideout of the notorious gang on Monday August 22 and they went after them.
On sighting the operatives, he said the suspected robbers opened fire on them, while the operatives also returned fire. By the time the dust settled one of the robbers, Abraham, was arrested while other members of the gang managed to escape.
