OGUN State Police Command has decided that it will prosecute pentecostal clergyman Pastor Wale Fagbere who was paralysed earlier this week after he invaded a traditional shrine in the Ketu area of Ayetoro.
Pastor Fagbere was rendered unconscious and speechless after invading a community in Ketu-Ayetoro in Yewa North Local Government Area and pulling its local shrine down. Describing the shrine as occult, Pastor Fagbere was believed to have been trapped in it when he invaded the premises by forces suspected to be spirits.
Upon entering the shrine, he was said to have been rendered motionless until people spotted him. He was, however, said to have regained consciousness after treatment following the intervention of the Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba Abdulazeez Adelakun.
Police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the cleric would be charged with malicious damage and conduct likely to cause a breach of the public peace. He, however, added that he could not tell in which court the accused would be arraigned.
Mr Oyeyemi said: “What he did was wrong and so he must be charged to court. If it was the other way round too, they would also be charged to court as everyone has a right to worship whatever deity one chooses to worship without fear."
