Unilorin student withdraws after confessing to getting his Wassce through malpractice

UNIVERSITY of Ilorin year three sociology student Abolarin Jephthah has notified the school’s authorities of his decision to withdraw from the institution confessing that he obtained his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (Wassce) by deception.

 

In a letter to the university authorities, Mr Jephthah confessed that he obtained the results of his Wassce through examination malpractices. Addressed to the deputy vice chancellor academics, Professor NYS Ijaiya, Mr Jephthah was said to have stated that having encountered Jesus Christ and become born-again, his decision to withdraw from the university was based on his newfound realisation that his foundation was faulty.

 

He added that he could not continue to be a student of Unilorin as a result. It appears that Mr Jephthah will now go back to sit his Wassce again and hope to achieve pass marks through honest and fair means this time.

 

His letter read: “With all sense of humility, I Abolarin Jephthah, a 300 level student in the department of sociology, wish to openly declare the reason why I withdraw from the university. Sir, just as a house that was built on a faulty foundation will definitely collapse.

 

“All through my secondary school days, I was just a church goer without genuine salvation and the fear of God and as a result of this, I got my West African Examination Council (Waec) result through examination malpractices. By the grace of God, now, I have encountered the limelight of the gospel of Jesus Christ which called for repentance and restitution."

 

He added that he has now realised that there is no point building his academic career on a faulty foundation, since the Waec result he got through malpractice was the basis of his admission into the university. Across Nigeria, examination malpractices are common with results even being openly bought.
