Deputy senate president Ike Ekweremadu agrees to stand as surety for Olisa Metuh

Ekwerenmadu 28ii29DEPUTY senate president Senator Ike Ekweremadu has agreed to stand as a surety to guarantee the bail granted by an Abuja federal high court to the national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Prince Olisa Metuh.

 

Prince Metuh is facing trial for his role in the Dasukigate scandal under which cash meant to purchase military hardware to fight Boko Haram was diverted into private pockets. He and his company, Destra Investment have been docked for seven counts, including fraud involving N400m, which he allegedly received from the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014 without justification.

 

In January, Prince Metuh was granted bail under certain strict conditions, which included him having to two sureties. One of his sureties Dr Olubumi Usim-Wilson, has indicated that he wishes to withdraw and Senator Ekweremadu has decided to step in.

 

At the resumed hearing of the case yesterday, Prince Metuh, through his lawyer, Dr Onyechi Ikpeazu, notified the court of his intention to present Senator Ekweremadu as one of his sureties. He made the application while an application filed by Dr Usim-Wilson to withdraw as surety was still pending.
