KOGI State has had its first ever female chief press secretary since its creation in 1991 following a decision by Governor Yahaya Bello to appoint Petra Akinti Onyegbule as his chief media aide.
Ms Onyegbule’s appointment which was confirmed yesterday also makes her the first chief press secretary to a governor in northern Nigeria. Prior to her new designation, Petra was Governor Bello’s special assistant on electronic media.
In addition, she is also the second ever female chief press secretary to a governor in Nigeria and presently the only woman in such a position. Known as the confluence state, Kogi is the only state in Nigeria which shares a boundary with 10 others and is bang in the middle of the country.
Earlier this year, Governor Bello was sworn in as the chief executive of Kogi State after being declared the winner of last year's elections. He secured 247,762 votes to defeat the incumbent governor Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 204,877 votes.
