Mikel could be on his way to France as Olympique Marseille enquire about him

SUPER Eagles skipper Mikel Obi could be on his way to French giants Olympique Marseille in January after the club made enquiries about signing him given his lack of playing time with English Premiership side Chelsea.

One of Chelsea's longest serving players who joined The Blues in July 2006, Mikel has not seen any action at all this season. Following the signing of N'Golo Kante from Leicester City, Mikel has been unable to break into the team and with his contract due to end at the season, he has held talks with the club about his future.

Mikel who led Nigeria’s U-23 to bronze medal win at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games is in good form but ne manager Antonio Conte has not looked his way. Mikel is due to become a free agent next summer and it is likely he may now cross the Channel to play in France.

During the week Mikel said that he will remain in Chelsea and fight for his place but he may now be tempted to move to see action. Mikel has spent 10 years with the Blues, making well over 350 appearances and collecting numerous major honours, but it appears his days in west London are numbered.

“If I don’t get back in the side, I will respect it. I always respect the football club’s decision because the club is more important than me," Mikel said.

Meanwhile, sportswear giants Nike are set to unveil new kits for the Nigeria’s national teams in November 2016. Nike, who are the official kit sponsors of the  Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) last unveiled a jersey for the Dream Team VI which they use for the 2016 Olympic Games.
