AMERICAN military strategists are considering sending Drones based in neighbouring Niger Republic into Nigeria to bomb Boko Haram bases as part of a strategy to finish off the terrorist sect once and for all.
Over the last year, the Nigerian military has enjoyed repeated success against Boko Haram insurgents, recapturing most of the territory the sect controlled. However, Boko Haram still control pockets of territory across northeast Nigeria from where it still carries out sporadic attacks against towns and villages.
In a bid to eliminate the threat once and for all, the US government is considering launching attacks from its drone base being constructed in the Niger Republic. This US drone base is under construction in Agadez in Niger Republic and when completed is expected to offer greater ability to attack Islamist extremists in countries like Libya, Mali and Nigeria.
Altogether, the facility in Agadez, is expected to cost the US military $100m. However, some security experts fear that such Drone attacks against insurgents in Nigeria might kill innocent people.
