Lagos police arrest Burkinabe national who slits victim's throat on church premises

MEN of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested Burkina Faso national Laday Wendipanga for killing one Adepeju Disu by slitting her throat with a knife while she was asleep on the premises of Holy Cross Cathedral on Lagos Island.

In a gruesome murder after slitting his victim's throat, the suspect then inflicted several cuts on the body of Ms Disu and dragged her corpse to a corner on the premises. Her corpse was discovered by a member of the church, who raised the alarm.

Apparently, a vigil was ongoing in the church when the incident happened. One eyewitness said both the victim and the suspect were mentally ill, adding that Ms Disu usually passed the night in the church.

He added: “Both of them are mentally ill and were being taken care of by the church. A vigil was going on that day when the incident happened and I learnt that Wendipanga went to where the woman was sleeping on the church premises and slit her throat with a knife.”

Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba. She added that the investigations will involve doing a medical evaluation of the suspect.
