Majek Fashek woos London diasporans at the premier of Nollywood film Desecration

NIGERIAN reggae legend Majek Fashek wooed hundreds of diasporans in London last night singing a rendition of his smash hit Send Down the Rain at the Light House Arena in Camberwell where he performed during the screening of the Nollywood film Desecration.

On a night that was filed with entertainment, Majek Fashek took the stage after the showing of the premier alongside the likes of Feyisara who sang a track from his new album Eko Ile. This was after guests were treated to the sizzling sexy movie Desecration by Bode Odetoye and directed by Niyi Towolawi, starring the likes of Rita Dominic and Joseph Benjamin.

Desecration is a story of enthralment and obsession about how a chance meeting and a casual encounter quickly becomes a living nightmare for medical doctor Olusola Daniels played by Joseph Benjamin. Following a romantic weekend with the gorgeous Linda Bruce played by Rita Dominic, Dr Daniels assumes he can just walk away but she refuses to be ignored and will go to any extent to achieve her goal.

Set and shot in London, the film stars other Nollywood heavyweights like Rykardo Agboh, alongside UK actors of both Nigerian and British backgrounds, such as Nicola Alexis currently starring in Harry Porter musical, Max Cavenham, Moji Bamtefa, Ken Smart and seven year old Angel Agala. It is director Mr Towolawi’s first feature film set in London, having shot his previous three in the US and Nigeria.

Mr Odetoye said: “After years of following his work and a few more spent planning to do something together, it was great to finally work with Niyi Towolawi. I call him my erudite director and it was a positive experience that I can’t wait to do all over again.”

Mr Towolawi added: “It was an absolute pleasure shooting a feature in London and getting the opportunity to photograph this beautiful city, working with close allies and a producer that allowed me so much space to put my signature as an auteur on the film.”

After the film ended Majek Fashek, born as Majekodunmi Fasheke and popularly known as the Rainmaker, took to the stage. In 2015, he was said to be bankrupt and battling drug addiction and after admitting that he needed help, he was admitted into a drug rehabilitation centre in Abuja.

It appears that he is now on the mend as he wooed the crowd with his melodious Bob Marley-like voice yesterday. After he performed Feyisara took to the stage and was joined by dozens of fans who danced the night away having been earlier entertained with stand-up comedy by Ayo.Dot and several gospel singers.
