OFFICERS from the Imo State Police Command have declared Pastor Samuel Ahanonu from Orogwe in the Owerri-West Local Government Area wanted in connection with the kidnap and murder of his brother Kennedy Amaechi Ahanonu.
On October 20, Kennedy was attacked by armed robbers in his house who later abducted him and murdered him in cold blood. Wanted along with Pastor Ahanonu over their alleged involvement in the crime are Okey Ozuzu, Chijioke Daggarman Ahanonu and Raymond Egbunine.
Taiwo Lakanu, the Imo State police commissioner, said that on October 20, following a distress call about a robbery at the house of the late Ahanonu, operatives of the command immediately swung into action. He stated that it discovered that the deceased was kidnapped by the assailants and one Daniel Igwekama, of Ndugwu in Owerri West Local Government Area was arrested immediately.
According to Mr Lakanu, during the cause of investigation, it was discovered that the victim had been in a protracted land dispute with the suspects, who are also his brothers. He further said one Daniel Igwekama, of Ndugwu in Owerri West Local Government Area was arrested immediately following the kidnap of the deceased by the suspects.
Following the investigations, the victim’s corpse was later found on the disputed land located along Ndegwu Road in Owerri West. Mr Lakanu said the state police command had intensified efforts to arrest the fleeing suspects and all those involved in the case and assured residents that the police command would do its best to reduce crime in the state.
